Public skate at Peaks Ice Arena

πŸ“ Provo
Families who want to skate this weekend

Peaks Ice Arena at 100 N Seven Peaks Blvd hosted hockey at the 2002 Winter Olympics and has two Olympic-sized sheets. Public skate is walk-in with no reservation, and Peaks rents skates and skating walkers for small kids. Some sessions are for adults or college students only, and the session title on the calendar says so.

Tip: Public skate most days Monday through Saturday, none on Sundays, in 2-hour sessions on the South Rink; today's sessions are on the Peaks page at provo.gov. Winter is the busy season, so come early: walkers are first come, first served and sell out.

Learn to Skate at Peaks

πŸ“ Provo
Kids from age 2 and adults starting out

Peaks teaches group classes in sessions of five to six weeks, with instruction in general skating, figure skating and hockey for every age. There is a Wednesday class just for ages 2 to 5. In Snowplow Explorers 1, a parent in skates can go on the ice with the child.

Tip: Sign-up required. The next registration opens December 15 for the January session, and a class closes once it fills, even before the deadline.
3

Sticktime at Peaks

πŸ“ Provo
Young hockey players who want more ice

Sticktime is open hockey practice at Peaks, with All-Ages sessions and Youth sessions for players 17 and under. Players need a stick, helmet, gloves and skates; the rink rents skates but not hockey gear. Each session caps at 25 players.

Tip: No walk-ins. Register and buy a punch pass in the DaySmart Dash app or website.
4

Select Health Ice Center

πŸ“ Sandy
Lehi and Saratoga Springs families who want indoor ice

Sandy's Select Health Ice Center, about 40 minutes from Provo at 10450 S State St, is the Utah Mammoth's practice rink; the team renamed it from the Utah Mammoth Ice Center in October 2026. Public skate is in 90-minute sessions for skaters 2 and up, with skate rental at the rink. Kids who want to try hockey can join the Mammoth's Learn to Play program.

Tip: Public skate Fridays and Sundays only, with no Saturday session. Bring tall, thick socks and gloves; helmets are free to borrow, and skate assists go to whoever gets them first.
5

County Ice Center

πŸ“ Murray
Kids 6 to 14 who want to try hockey

Salt Lake County's indoor rink at 5201 S Murray Park Lane, about 45 minutes from Provo, runs public skate, a recreational youth hockey program for ages 6 to 14, and adult leagues with drop-in stick-and-puck. The county posts the coming week's public skate sessions on its rink page, and the phone is 385-468-1650.

Tip: Salt Lake County's rink rules, effective September 1, 2026, ban coaching and private instruction during public skate. Groups of 20 or more get a discount by reserving ahead.
6

Cottonwood Heights Ice Arena

πŸ“ Cottonwood Heights
Families who want skates included with admission

The Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center's indoor rink at 7500 S 2700 E, about 50 minutes from Provo, includes skate rental in admission. It lends Bobby the Seal skate aids to skaters 8 and under, first come, first served, with an adult's photo ID as collateral. Strollers are not allowed on the ice.

Skaters who want to try a speed skating track

How to pick the right one

Peaks is in Provo, about 5 minutes from downtown Provo, and Orem, Springville and Spanish Fork families drive there too. Public skate is free with a Provo Recreation Center membership, and you pay only for skate rental.

From Lehi, Saratoga Springs or Eagle Mountain, Peaks is about 25 minutes from downtown Lehi. Cottonwood Heights Ice Arena and the Utah Olympic Oval are each about 35 minutes away. Select Health Ice Center in Sandy is the shortest drive at about 20 minutes, but it skates only on Fridays and Sundays.

Lehi's temporary rink at the Sports Complex ran in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 winters. The city paused its funding in 2025, and no 2026-27 season is posted.

Outdoor rinks open later and depend on weather, so for ice today pick an indoor rink.
