Lehi packs a parade, pioneer exhibits, classic vehicles, and five food trucks into Saturday afternoon, Heather Headley joins the Utah Valley Symphony in Orem, and a new UVU scholarship is worth up to $20,000
Plus tonkotsu ramen in Orem, a free life science museum in Provo, and the final Tame Dog show at Velour.
Good morning, Happy Valley.
Saturday gives you a full afternoon in Lehi without buying a ticket. Heritage Day starts with a parade at 2:30, moves into an honoree program at three, and ends with food trucks, classic vehicles, and a marker hunt around the Civic Center.
The rest of the weekend spreads out. Heather Headley sings with the Utah Valley Symphony in Orem, canoes launch after dark on the lower Provo River, and a Provo band plays its final show at Velour. We found enough good options that one of them still gets a skip.

β The Big One
Pick of the week Lehi puts its parade, pioneer buildings, classic vehicles, and five food trucks into one free afternoon
Lehi Heritage Day starts at 2:30 Saturday with a parade from Wines Park down Center Street to the Legacy Center. The city honors this year's Lehi Heritage Day honorees at three, then moves the rest of the afternoon to the Civic Center grounds from four to six.
That second half is the useful part. The west parking lot fills with classic cars and bikes plus a row of tractors, five food trucks serve dinner, and the historical marker quest sends you around Lehi collecting stamps. A completed passport gets you into prize drawings at 5:45.
The restored 1872 Lehi train depot and the Hutchings Museum are both free during the event. The depot has a working telegraph exhibit, a model of Lehi around 1905, and a life-size train parlor built to show what a passenger car looked like when the station opened.
Our take
This is the rare city history day that gives children something to do besides listen to adults talk. The passport sends them through the exhibits, and dinner is parked outside when they finish.
β οΈ Heads up: Seating at the three o'clock honoree program is limited. Bring a folding chair if that part matters to you.

UVU launched a scholarship for high school students who already earned credit there
Utah Valley University launched the Freshman Concurrent Enrollment Merit Scholarship on Tuesday for students who take UVU classes while they are still in high school. The award has two levels: $3,500 or $5,000 a year, based on how many UVU concurrent-enrollment credits a student finishes. It can be renewed for four years, which puts the top value at $20,000. Sixty-four high schools participate in UVU's concurrent-enrollment program, so this reaches well beyond one district.
Lehi's restored 1872 train depot opens its doors again Saturday
The Lehi train depot at 225 E State Street opens free from 2:30 to 6 Saturday as part of Heritage Day. The building dates to 1872 and drew more than 250 people during a soft reopening in July. Inside, the exhibits cover telegraph messages, mail and freight, and passenger travel, including a model of Lehi around 1905 and a life-size train parlor. It is a small building, but it finally gives the city's railroad history a room of its own.

Concert
Book now π€ Heather Headley sings with the Utah Valley Symphony under the Shell
Tony and Grammy winner Heather Headley joins the Utah Valley Symphony Saturday night, with Rex Kocherhans and the Debra Bonner Unity Gospel Choir also on the bill. Gates open at 6:30 and the concert starts at eight.
Our take
Headley has the voice to fill an outdoor amphitheater, and the orchestra plus gospel choir make this a larger show than a standard touring stop. General admission is enough if you get there when the gate opens.
β οΈ Heads up: The concert is outdoors. Bring the layer you will want after sunset, and do not count on a late general-admission arrival for a good chair spot.

Book now πΆ The last two moonlight canoe nights of 2026 launch on the lower Provo River
CLAS sends canoes onto the lower Provo River Friday and Saturday after dark. You can launch any time from 8:30 to 9:30 and have the boat back by 10:30. The price includes the canoe, paddles, life jackets, and a s'mores stop.
Our take
The river is slow here and the route is short enough for a weeknight, but it still feels different once the headlamps come on. These are the final two dates on the 2026 schedule.
β οΈ Heads up: Children ten and younger need an adult in the canoe. Wear something that can get wet even if you do not plan to swim.

Worth it ποΈ Utah's free youth ATV course brings the machine onto the practice field
The state runs a four-hour youth ATV course at Flight Park tonight. It satisfies Utah's hands-on education requirement and costs nothing, but each rider needs a properly sized ATV plus a DOT helmet, goggles, gloves, over-the-ankle boots, long sleeves, and long pants.
Our take
If a teenager in your house rides, four supervised hours are more useful than another online safety lecture. The free price only helps families who already have the right machine and protective gear.
β οΈ Heads up: A parent or guardian must supervise riders twelve and younger. Check every required piece of gear before you make the drive.

Skip unless πΈ Tame Dog plays its final show Saturday at Velour
Provo band Tame Dog closes its run Saturday with Hurry Up And Wait and T Street opening. Doors and show time are listed for 7:30, the room is all ages, and the ticket is $12.24 with fees included.
Our take
Skip it unless Tame Dog or one of the openers already means something to you. A final show matters most to the people who were there before the final show was announced.
β οΈ Heads up: It is an all-ages room, but it is still a small standing music venue. Expect a close crowd and a late finish.

Worth it πΆ Neal Stucki plays the sidewalk in downtown Springville Friday evening
Art City Sidewalk Sessions puts a local performer on Festival Street every Friday. Neal Stucki has this week's slot from 6:30 to eight, and the show is free with tips encouraged.
Our take
This is the easiest live-music plan in the issue. There is no ticket, no gate, and no reason to stay for the full ninety minutes if the evening pulls you somewhere else.
β οΈ Heads up: The performance is outside on the street. Bring your own seat if standing for the set sounds miserable.

RSL's Leagues Cup run ended 3-0, and the road trip stays in Colorado
Real Salt Lake lost 3-0 to Club LeΓ³n on Tuesday in the Leagues Cup quarterfinal at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The tournament is over for RSL, so the club returns to Major League Soccer play in the same stadium Saturday against the Colorado Rapids.
Mina Tanaka scored twice in San Diego, but the Royals came home with a 4-2 loss
Utah Royals FC lost 4-2 at San Diego Wave last Friday despite two goals from Mina Tanaka. The Royals are fourth in the NWSL table and travel across the country for Saturday's match against Orlando Pride.
π΄ Eat & Drink
Worth it Asa Ramen, Orem
Asa sits in the strip on State Street just north of 1200 South and keeps the menu short: ramen and rice bowls, plus buns and a few sides.
Order the tonkotsu. The regular bowl is $11.45, with pork and noodles in the broth plus an egg and greens. That is enough for dinner without adding a side. A half bowl is $6.95 if you want room for the $4.95 chashu bun.
The timing matters more than the order. Weekday lunch stops at three and dinner does not begin until five, so the locked door in the middle of the afternoon is part of the schedule, not a closure.
Our take
An $11.45 tonkotsu bowl is still a useful dinner price, and the half bowl keeps this workable when you are feeding a child or splitting buns. Start with the regular bowl before you build a larger order.
β οΈ Heads up: The restaurant is closed Sunday and shuts for two hours between weekday lunch and dinner.

Worth it The Bean Museum is free, open Saturday, and has a parking trick worth knowing
The Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum holds three floors of mounted animals and natural-history exhibits on the north side of the BYU campus. Admission is free, and Saturday hours run ten to five.
The useful detail is outside the building. Visitors can park in the museum lot, but they need a visitor pass from the front desk. Get that first rather than spending the whole visit wondering whether the car is legal.
Our take
This works when you need two indoor hours without a reservation or an admission bill. Let the child pick the first floor, then follow whatever animal catches their eye next.
β οΈ Heads up: Pick up the free visitor parking pass at the front desk as soon as you enter.

A Lindon charter took first place in Utah's latest U.S. News ranking
Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy ranked first among Utah public high schools in the latest U.S. News list, with a score of 97.78. The ranking compares nearly 18,000 schools using state test results, college readiness, and Advanced Placement participation and performance. Maeser opened in 2007 inside a former bowling alley and now enrolls almost 800 students. The title belongs to this ranking system, but the school still beat every other Utah entry under the same rules.
Thanksgiving Point announced a multi-story stained-glass building for Ashton Gardens
Thanksgiving Point announced plans for the Sphere of Light, a multi-story building wrapped in more than 10,000 square feet of illustrated glass at Ashton Gardens in Lehi. The plans include reflection rooms, a children's center, auditoriums, performance halls, and learning and event space. No opening date has been announced, so this is still a project on paper rather than a new stop for this weekend.
A Lindon counter-drone company joined a five-year federal contract vehicle
Fortem Technologies was selected as one of seven prime contractors on a five-year Department of Homeland Security counter-drone contract vehicle. The shared ceiling starts at $1.011 billion, which is the maximum value of task orders across the vehicle rather than a billion-dollar check to Fortem. Homeland Security agencies can now issue task orders directly for the Lindon company's detection and interception systems.
