Rock Canyon Park

๐Ÿ“ Provo
Every age at once

Provo's biggest park sits in a bowl below Rock Canyon, and the slopes range from long gentle runs to steep ones with jumps. There are restrooms, playgrounds and plenty of parking, and it costs nothing.

Tip: The steep side gets icy by afternoon. Little kids do better on the gentler slopes.
2

Bicentennial Park

๐Ÿ“ Provo (1400 E 1440 S)
Smaller kids

A neighborhood park with tall trees and a small pond, and a hill that suits shorter rides. It sits in a residential area, so keep noise and parking considerate.

Tip: Stay clear of the pond edge at the bottom of the run.
3

Peteetneet Museum lawn

๐Ÿ“ Payson
South county families

The hills beside the historic Peteetneet Academy building are long and smooth, and locals have sledded here for years. It gets busy on weekends and holidays, which packs the snow into a faster run.

Tip: There are no concessions. Bring water and snacks.
4

Silver Lake Amphitheater

๐Ÿ“ Eagle Mountain
Sled races

The grassy amphitheater slope in front of the stage makes a wide, moderately steep sledding hill, and the side slopes are good for racing. It is free and open sunrise to sunset.

Tip: The wide slope fits a group racing side by side.
5

Jolley's Ranch

๐Ÿ“ Hobble Creek Canyon, Springville
Canyon snow

Up Hobble Creek Canyon, Jolley's Ranch holds snow after the valley has melted, and locals use its slopes for sledding and tubing. Bring your own sleds.

Tip: Check the canyon road after a storm before you load the car.
6

Tibble Fork Reservoir

๐Ÿ“ American Fork Canyon
A snowy canyon outing

There is no groomed hill here, but locals sled the slopes above and below the big parking lot and along the dam ridge. American Fork Canyon charges a recreation fee at the entrance station.

Tip: Canyon weather turns fast. Pack extra layers.
7

Soldier Hollow tubing

๐Ÿ“ Midway, Wasatch Mountain State Park
When the valley has no snow

The 2002 Olympic Nordic venue runs lift-served tubing lanes up to about 1,200 feet long, with night sessions under lights. It is about a 45-minute drive from Provo through Provo Canyon.

Tip: Tubing sells by session. Book online before a holiday weekend.
๐Ÿ“
Local note: City parks are free and first come, first served. Sled during daylight, check for fences and trees at the bottom of each run, and keep off school grounds during school hours.

How to pick the right one

Pick the hill by the age of the kids. Rock Canyon Park in Provo has everything from short gentle runs to steep ones with jumps, so it works for a mixed group. Bicentennial Park and the Peteetneet lawn are smaller and calmer. The canyon spots, Jolley's Ranch and Tibble Fork, hold snow longer than the valley floor but need a canyon drive, so check the roads after a storm.

Valley snow melts fast in Utah County, so go the morning after a storm. Bring a dry change of clothes for the car, and use the hills during daylight. If there is no snow in the valley, Soldier Hollow's lift-served tubing lanes near Midway are the reliable backup.
